Wood County Sheriff’s Department Warns of Scams in the Area

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public about an increase of scams in the area.

The Department has been notified of scam calls reaching residents where the scammer is alleging to be one of the Department’s staff and saying they need to discuss an urgent legal matter.  Please do not give financial information or detailed personal information out over the phone.

If you feel something is "off" with the call, hang up and contact a known, published number for their dispatch to verify the call.  As a reminder, they will never ask for payment, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to resolve a matter.
