(Mike Leischner, WSAU-WAOW) A Greenwood man was detained outside of Saturday’s rally for Donald Trump at the Central Wisconsin Airport after asking officers if he could bring a concealed weapon into the event.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, WAOW TV reports that Brandon Lee Zamora was detained outside of the rally Saturday morning as he was trying to get in line ahead of the security checkpoint. Officers said he had asked them if he could bring his concealed 9 MM handgun.
Officers found the gun concealed in the waistband of his pants. They also found 30 rounds of ammo in two magazines which were kept inside the pouch of his hooded sweatshirt. He was taken away from the line and officers notified the incident command of an armed person in the parking lot.
Officers confirmed that he did have a concealed carry permit and didn’t have any outstanding weapons violations. He later admitted that he understood that bringing a concealed weapon to the rally could be viewed as problematic.
While he was detained officers also discovered that he was wanted in Clark County on an outstanding traffic ticket for operating a vehicle without carrying a valid license. Court records show he appeared for that on Tuesday and has 60 days to pay a $180 fine.
Marathon County court records do not show any pending court action for Saturday’s incident. The incident came eight weeks after a failed assassination attempt against the former President and current GOP Presidential candidate at an outdoor rally in Pennsylvania.
