Marshfield Common Council Hears Several Presentations and Approves Ordinances

Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 -- 10:00 AM

The Marshfield Common Council heard several presentations at their meeting on Tuesday.

The Board heard information on the City’s benefits renewal; a report on implementation of Phase 1 of West 2nd Street Redevelopment Plan; a presentation of candidates for election to a 7-year term on the Marshfield Utilities Commission; and an update on development of the 2025 City budget. These presentations were for informational purposes only, so no action was taken on them.

The Board also heard about the resignation of Ed Wagner from the Common Council representing the 5th District due to medical issues. Also, they heard an update on a grant the City received from Wood County that was discussed at the previous meeting.

The City received $12,500 from Wood County to use for the Wenzel Plaza bathroom project. However, as that project is still being discussed, the City asked Wood County if the funds could be used for the project next year or if they could be reallocated for the pickleball project and used this year.

Wood County said the funds could be reallocated for the pickleball project. It was also mentioned that the City will receive $20,000 for softball fields next year. The Council also had the second reading, and approval, of an ordinance annexing property at 111250 West McMillan Street to the City of Marshfield and establishing Single-Family Residential as the zoning classification.

The Council also had the second reading, and approval, of another ordinance that adds clarification for how lot width, lot area and building coverage of lots are determined for townhouses with individual lots in various zoning districts. The Council also had the first reading of an ordinance prohibiting large-scale commercial animal breeding. As it was the first reading, no action was taken.

The Council also approved a resolution regarding Special Assessments for 2024 Asphalt Paving Project, the Alley between Central Avenue and Maple Avenue, from 12th to 14th Street; the dedication of the right-of-way for Bradford Court; and dedication of the right-of-way for Yellowstone Drive. The Policy regarding utility transfers was sent back to the Finance Committee.
