BIG BOARD MEETING
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 -- 10:27 AM
There will likely be a big crowd on hand for Wednesday's meeting of the Clark County Board of Supervisors. At their last meeting, the board voted 18-10 to implement a half-percent sales tax; under board rules, the ordinance must receive a 2nd and 3rd reading, which could come at the meeting.
If approved, the tax will go into effect on January 1, 2009. Estimates show it could raise $1.6-million for the county next year.
Clark is one of only 12 counties that don't have the optional tax. But, advisory referenda in 2002 and 2005 showed residents were overwhelmingly opposed.
The board will also consider the first reading of a proposed subdivision ordinance.
