Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department Responds to Fire at Cold Storage Facility
Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 -- 12:01 PM
The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department responded to a fire Monday afternoon.
The fire occurred around 5:13pm at 801 21st Ave where a local cold storage facility building had an active water flow alarm sound from a sprinkler activation system. No one was in the building at the time of the Department’s arrival.
Water was found to be flowing from a maintenance room. When firefighters entered, they found heavy smoke and evidence of an active fire that was extinguished by the activation of four sprinkler heads.
It was reported that someone had been welding in that area earlier in the day. The fire was extinguished by the suppression system prior to the Department’s arrival. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
The Department continues to investigate the cause and origin of the fire, which is believed to be accidental.
