Marshfield Common Council Approves Weed Control Ordinance and More
Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 -- 8:01 AM
The Marshfield Common Council had the second reading and approval of the City’s Weed Control Ordinance.
The slight changes approved put the City in more compliance with Wood County and the DNR. The Council also approved an ordinance regarding rezoning the west portion of a parcel from multi-family residential to community mixed use.
It was supposed to be only the first reading, but the Council approved to suspend the rules and vote for approval of the ordinance. This was partially due to the Planning Commission not having a quorum at their July meeting, so it pushed the owner’s plans back.
The Council also had the first reading of a few other ordinances, so no further action was taken, on annexing property at 111250 West McMillan Street to the City of Marshfield and establishing single-family residential as the zoning classification;
Amending various portions of Chapter 24 of the Marshfield Municipal Code (sign code) to allow projector signs as alternative signs and include standard regulations for this type of sign;
And amending Sections 18-31 (MR-12), 18-32 (MR-24), 18-34 (NMU), 18-35 (CMU), 18-36 (UMU), and 18-37 (DMU) to add clarification for how lot width, lot area and building coverage of lots are determined for townhouses with individual lots in various zoning districts.
The Council also approved City staff seeking approval from Wood County to carryover unused 2024 grant funds for the Wenzel Family Plaza restroom project into 2025 for that project, or, if that’s not allowed, to re-purpose for the pickleball court construction project. The total amount is $12,500.
In approving the minutes from the various Committee meetings over the past couple weeks, the Council did approved special assessments for the alley between CentralMaple and 12th-14th; authorize refilling the vacant Zoo Manager position;
Approved the contract renewal for the Rotary Winter Wonderland; approve contract renewals for the Catholic/Lutheran cemeteries; approved the comprehensive social media policy;
Approved the 2025 ambulance billing rates; approved a conditional use permit for 408 Commerce Drive; and approved to adopt the 2025 BID assessment rate.
One item that wasn’t approved was the purchase of various fleet equipment for the Street Division. This would have approved a paint truck for the city to paint street lines.
However, after some research and discussion, it was decided that there could be better options for the City, so it was sent back to Public Works for further consideration.
