(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) In 2024, the average cash rent for non-irrigated cropland in Wisconsin rose to $158.00 per acre, reflecting a $7.00 increase from the previous year, as reported by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, pastureland also saw a rise in cash rent, averaging $41.00 per acre, up $3.50 from 2023. Lafayette County led the state with the highest cash rent for non-irrigated cropland, averaging $261.00 per acre.

Grant County followed closely with an average of $244.00 per acre. Other counties with high average rents included Dane, Kewaunee, and Green. Conversely, Douglas County reported the lowest cash rent for non-irrigated cropland at just $14.00 per acre.

In terms of pastureland, Rock County recorded the highest average cash rent at $69.00 per acre, with Lafayette County again near the top at $65.00 per acre. Bayfield County had the lowest average rent for pastureland, coming in at $10.00 per acre.

These figures highlight the variation in land rental rates across Wisconsin, influenced by factors such as soil quality, location, and market demand. The increases in cash rent indicate a robust demand for agricultural land, reflecting the ongoing importance of farming in Wisconsin’s economy.
