Wood County Sheriff Department Water Rescue Training

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department received a grant for a new tool to aid in water rescues. The flat bottomed air boat will make ice and water rescues quicker and safer for the department. The grant was possible through the Legecy Foundation. The department held a training in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday and will continue to train with the boat in the coming months.

The boat can be launched anywhere and used in the water and on top of ice. The boat’s flat bottom and above-water propeller allow rescue volunteers to get into places where other watercraft can not go. The water rescue squad currently has 27 members and is overseen by the sheriff's department.
