At Tuesday night's meeting, the Marshfield Common Council voted in favor of a development agreement with Weinbrenner Shoe Company to build in the Mill Creek Business Park.
The company is expected to break ground on its 14.5 million manufacturing next month. The new 70,000-square-foot facility is expected to create 35 new jobs for the organization, expanding upon the 120 already in place.
It will open in late 2025 and join several other large businesses, such as Dental Crafters, Prevention Genetics, and Hewitt Meats, located just off U.S. Highway 10. The City created Mill Creek Business Park and Yellowstone Industrial Park to encourage and promote business and industrial growth in the community.
Recently, the state of Wisconsin certified 123 acres in Yellowstone Industrial Park as a shovel-ready site. Privately owned Norwood Industrial Park also offers sites for development.
“As a manufacturer of high-quality footwear and an exceptional employer, Weinbrenner has always been and continues to be a very important part of the Marshfield community,” said City Administrator Steve Barg.
The company, founded in 1892, is one of the oldest shoe-manufacturing companies in the United States. It is best known for its Thorogood work boots. "We could not be prouder as a community to have partnered with Weinbrenner to assist with incentives to ensure this great local employer stays here in Marshfield and grows," said Mayor Lois TeStrake.
"Weinbrenner has employed hundreds of folks here in Marshfield over the years, and thankfully, with their large investment and commitment to stay right here, we will be able to celebrate hundreds more over the years," TeStrake added.
The company has selected Ellis Construction of Stevens Point to build the state-of-the-art facility, focusing on employee health and productivity.
