Thursday, August 15th, 2024 -- 2:00 PM

(Heather Knox, WEAU) A Jackson County man was sentenced on charges stemming from a New Year’s Day shooting in 2022.

According to a news release from Jackson County District Attorney Emily Hynek, on Aug. 13, 52-year-old Roy Thompson was sentenced to 10 years in Wisconsin State Prison, followed by five years of extended supervision.

The shooting happened in Black River Falls on New Year’s Day in 2022, when Thompson fired an illegally-owned gun twice inside a home toward children. He was intoxicated at the time. He also hit the mother of the children in the face with the gun. No one was injured in the shooting.

Thompson was convicted in March 2023 for domestic first-degree recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon as a repeat offender and possessing a firearm as an outside felon as a repeat offender.
