Two Arrested After Striking a Pedestrian in Eau Claire

On Saturday, August 10th around 5:05PM, the Eau Claire Communications Center received a 911 call of a hit and run to a pedestrian at Menards on Hastings Way in Eau Claire.
The caller provided the license plate of the striking vehicle. Altoona Police entered the car into the City’s License Plate Reader system. Minutes later the system alerted Officers that the car was traveling west on Highway 12.
Officers located the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed west on Highway 12. Officers attempted to stop the car but it continued and fled from officers. Officers pursued the vehicle south on Highway 53 and west on Interstate 94.
An Eau Claire Deputy and a Wisconsin State Trooper were able to deploy tire deflation devices. The vehicle became disabled and stopped on the interstate west of Highway 37. Officers safely took the subjects into custody. Drugs and stolen items were located in the car.
The driver was identified as Louis Chattard (59 years old) and the passenger was identified as Hawakiin Suleiman (39 years old), both of Minneapolis, MN. Both suspects were transported to the jail for charges related to the pursuit, drug crimes, and the Eau Claire Police investigation.
