Marshfield Common Council Approves Budget Resolutions

The Marshfield Common Council approved some budget resolutions at their meeting on Tuesday.
The Council approved transferring cash from the CDBG housing program to the Wisconsin Department of Administration. The City had initially contracted with another county to run this program, but that county has discontinued their program, so they will now by using the Wisconsin Department of Administration for their housing grant program.
The Council also approved increasing the 2024 adopted budget for façade grant and interior conversion projects by $30,000. This was a continuation of a program from last year and the funds were rolled over.
The Council also approved transferring $206,203 in unanticipated revenue from Marshfield Utilities dividend to the Economic Development fund and approved a resolution regarding special assessments for the 2024 sanitary sewer project on South Maple Avenue from South Central Avenue to East 16th Street. A public hearing was held on this item, but there were no comments made.
The Council also approved the Green Acres Estates South Final Plat and approved a request to consider Petition of Annexation for property located at 111250 West McMillan Street. The Council also had the first reading of the City’s Weed Control Ordinance.
In approving the minutes from the various committee meetings the past few weeks, the Council approved design services for South Vine Avenue reconstruction, approved a revised city policy regarding street light installation, and approved an addition to the 2024 asphalt paving program.
They also approved refilling a vacant part-time position at the library, approved a revised city policy regarding emergency leave, and approved the 2025 Council budget calendar.
The Board also heard three presentations, one regarding the UWSP-Marshfield Campus. The Marshfield Campus, as opposed to many other universities around the state, is actually expected to see growth in the fall semester. They did mention a need for space and praised the good relationship with the City.
The Council also heard a presentation on the 2024 Hub City Days. The City had another successful year with the event. Finally, the City heard the 2023 financial audit report. The basic message from the auditors is that the City of Marshfield is in good financial standing. The Council accepted the report and put it on file.
During the Mayor’s comments, she relayed a positive message she had received regarding the City’s downtown flowers and plants. The City Administrator discussed the first Housing Committee meeting, a potential Economic Development roundtable session, getting caught up with agenda items mentioned by Council members, and he thanked election workers for their efforts on Tuesday.
Finally, during the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident provided comments to the committee regarding housing and the bathrooms on Wenzel Plaza.
