Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 -- 12:00 PM
(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Trial dates have been scheduled for a Wisconsin Rapids man accused of trying to run someone over with his pickup last year.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Luis Rodriguez-Moreno will go to trial from December 11th through the 13th for counts of attempted homicide and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. Investigators say he ran over the victim outside a home in Plover, then kicked the victim in the head while he was down.
The victim, who survived the incident, was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries to his leg and face. They also noticed tire marks on his clothing. Investigators add that the incident occurred during a heated phone conversation.
The victim, who has not been identified, stepped out of the home to take the call, and that’s when he noticed a pickup speeding toward him. The 30-year-old admitted to kicking the victim but has denied running him over with his vehicle.
Rodriguez-Moreno is being held on a $50,000 cash bond and faces a mandatory life sentence on the attempted homicide count alone. The second count carries a maximum of 15 years in state prison.
