Wausau Woman Sentenced to Jail for 4th OWI

Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 -- 10:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau woman will serve four months in the Marathon County Jail with work release or Huber privileges after pleading no contest to her 4th OWI.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Marissa Rose Atkinson was then found guilty of the charge by a Marathon County judge, who dismissed numerous other counts of operating with a revoked license tied to other cases.

She was then sentenced to jail time, which will be served at the discretion of her agent. She must also maintain absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. She must also install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle registered in her name. Charges stem from a New Year’s Day traffic stop near Target in Weston.

Officers pulled Atkinson over for speeding, and while interacting with her the officers noticed signs of impairment. She failed a field sobriety test and was immediately taken into custody.

In addition to speeding and OWI charges, she also faced a citation for failing to register her vehicle. The 30-year-old has previous OWI convictions dating back to 2020 and 2021.
