Arpin Family Mourning the Loss of Their Goats

Monday, August 12th, 2024 -- 3:00 PM

(Chris Conley, WSAU and WAOW) An Arpin family is mourning the loss of their goats.

According to Chris Conley with WSAU and WAOW, Stacy Zivicki and her daughter Ruby work with people and businesses who need large fields of grass to be trimmed down. While they were grazing in a field in Whiting, the unthinkable happened.

Someone from the village called Stacy to report a dead goat on the property. After all was said and done, seven were killed in total. Zivicki said that as soon she saw the goats, she knew what had happened to them.

She said, “All the ones that were dead, they were bloated. I mean bloated beyond anything I’ve ever seen. Their eyes were bulging, a couple of them had blue green around their gum line.”

She says the animals were poisoned. One of the goats was able to be saved using activated carbon. The animals weren’t just pets to the Zivickis, losing several of them also means losing money for their business.

Zivicki said, “We’ve got contracts throughout the rest of the summer for these goats to go out and do environmental projects, so this was a huge huge financial hit for us.” She said from now on, she’ll have to stay with the goats when they’re out for the night.

Zivicki said, “I am no longer going to be leaving my goats unattended in the evening in any public setting, so I need to invest in a truck camper or a topper, a tall topper that we can convert with a bed so that we can sleep, and be with the goats and protect them at night.”

One of her friends set up a GoFundMe to help them buy more goats. She said what happened was cruel, and she hopes someone is held accountable for what happened.
