Former Wausau School Teacher Facing Possession Charges Appears in Marathon County Court

Monday, August 12th, 2024 -- 2:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The former John Muir Middle School math teacher accused of bringing cocaine onto school grounds is working on a plea deal for the charges, according to Mike Leischner with WSAU.

According to online court records, representatives for Nevan Larson have requested a tentative plea hearing for October 25th. Investigators believe Larson had approximately one gram of the drug in his vehicle as it was parked on school grounds in early May.

The School Resource Officer at John Muir was tipped off to the potential drugs and then brought in a drug dog to investigate the vehicle. That turned up a baggie that tested positive for the substance. Larson was arrested and spent a night in the Marathon County Jail before his initial court appearance on May 3rd.

Since then he’s been free on a $2,500 signature bond with several conditions including no contact with the Wausau School District and absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. He’s pled not guilty to the charges, an unclassified misdemeanor that could come with fines and probation.

He could also spend time in the Marathon County Jail with work-release privileges. Officers emphasized that there is no reason to believe any students were involved in the incident.
