Rothschild Woman Accused of Suffocating Four-Month-Old Child

Monday, August 12th, 2024 -- 2:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Rothschild woman is accused of suffocating a four-month-old child that she was supposed to be caring for while his mother was partaking in an outside gathering.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Ann Marie Spaude is accused of passing out on the child’s head after consuming beer and malt liquor. A witness discovered her passed out with the boy face down underneath her, and when they freed the boy his body was limp.

First responders attempted life-saving measures but the boy was pronounced dead. Spaude was asleep the entire time first responders were on the scene, according to the complaint.

Additionally, she had been instructed to stay sober while watching the boy. But witnesses say there were several empty bottles of alcohol at the scene. The incident occurred in September 2023. An amended complaint against the 54-year-old was filed earlier this summer.

She appeared in court on Friday to face one count of child neglect- causing death which could land her in prison for up to 40 years. She faces multiple other charges as well from other open cases, including bail jumping and disorderly conduct in a domestic abuse setting.

She’s being held on a $10,000 cash bond and will return to court on September 5th.
