Wood County Jail Inmate Accused of Trying to Hire a Man to Kill a Correctional Officer Has Trial Pushed Back

Thursday, August 8th, 2024 -- 11:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Wood County Jail inmate accused of trying to hire another man to help him kill a correctional officer will go to trial early next year.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jesse Hansen Schumann was originally scheduled for trial this week, but court records indicate that was rescheduled for February 25th through the 27th. It’s unclear why the court proceedings were pushed back.

The 33-year-old is accused of asking another inmate to help him kill an officer, saying he didn’t like the guard because they had previously held him accountable for disciplinary reasons. Hansen Schumann’s plan allegedly included jumping the guards in a blind spot in the jail’s security camera system.

The inmate said he didn’t want anything to do with the plan and informed jail staff, adding he wanted to avoid blame if anything did occur. Hansen Schumann also promised to kill the second inmate’s ex-wife if he helped carry out the plot, according to investigators.

No further court action is scheduled between now and February 25th. Hansen Schumann is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
