(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man has pled guilty to a felony count of armed robbery for breaking into his neighbor’s apartment as she was sleeping.
Robert Carey will serve seven years in prison and ten years on extended supervision for the Class C felony count, which came with a repeat modifier. The 50-year-old has previously served time for a count of armed robbery through the use of force. He was released after serving time on those charges in 2022. Then in April a Wausau woman called the police to report a man, later identified as Carey, had broken into her apartment and was going through her things. Carey was holding a knife when the woman confronted him.
He was arrested and made an initial appearance the next day. The sentence also carries a full no-contact order with the victim and absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. He was given credit for 100 days already served in the Marathon County Jail. Cary had been held on a $100,000 bond and was originally scheduled for arraignment on Thursday. That was changed to a plea hearing at the last minute.
