(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The man accused of killing his children and stabbing his wife earlier this month in Abbotsford appeared in court Tuesday, where he was ordered to undergo competency evaluations.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Victor Manuel Gomez Acosta was formally charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide during Tuesday’s hearing.
A judge also ordered the examination, which will be conducted at a later date. Investigators say Gomez Acosta killed his two children by stabbing them Friday, July 5th in an Abbotsford trailer home.
He’s also accused of stabbing the children’s mother, who required surgery but is recovering from her injuries. Officers arrested Gomez Acosta at the scene. He was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds before officers booked him into the Clark County jail.
Court records show Gomez Acosta, who appeared via Zoom, was removed from Tuesday’s hearing by the judge because was “making comments [which made it] hard to continue” the proceedings.
Court officials then moved him to the virtual waiting room. The 29-year-old faces a mandatory life sentence for all three counts. A status conference has been scheduled for August 27th.
