(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Residents in Wisconsin Rapids will soon have a new city website and new ways to get information from their elected leaders.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Mayor Matt Zacher says the revamped website has been one of his priorities since taking office and something that many city employees have been calling for.
“We’re in favor of a new, updated website that can do more of the things that we need to do to communicate more effectively,” said Zacher. The city is in the final stages of selecting a team to help revamp the website, which he says will focus on providing clear and direct communication with residents.
“[We need to be] up front about what’s going on, and the more honest you are- the more everybody’s a part of the same conversation the better off you will be.” That process could also include podcasts or videos with department leaders discussing what’s going on in the city, much like his monthly chats with WSAU News. “Being able to get that information out, so we can get it all out and really dive into it versus just getting the snippets.”
Zacher says the goal is to make city government more accessible to the taxpayers. “In the end the residents and businesses are our customers, they are paying us to do this.”
The process also includes a community survey, which will be available on the city’s website soon. There’s no timeline for when the new website will be functional.
