Lyme Disease cases in Clark County are up.Granted, there have been only 5 reported cases of the tick-borne disease, but that's still more than usual.
"Lyme disease is a bacteria that's transmitted from an infect tick to a human," explains Deb Miller of the Clark County Health Department, "Typical symptoms include a fever, headache, fatigue or a skin rash."
If left untreated, Lyme Disease can infect the joints, heart and nervous systems, but Miller says it is treatable with antibiotics.
"What (we) want to make sure to remind everybody is to use insect repellent, if they get a tick on them to remove it promptly and make sure they have long sleeves and long pants infested areas."
The primary culprit of infections is the tiny deer tick.
A tell-tale sign of a possible infection is a "bullseye"-shaped red mark around the bite.
