BEARS SPOTTED IN NEILLSVILLE
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 -- 10:29 AM
It's mating season for black bears and that means they could be wandering into a neighborhood near you. There have been several black bear sightings in the city of Neillsville in the past few weeks. The most recent was over the weekend when a small, 100 lbs. cub was seen behind Memorial Medical Center near the Country View apartments.
The bear was apparently laying waste to bird feeders.
Now, if you should ever encounter a bear, experts say you should:
--Make loud noises, such as shouting or clanging things together.
--Don't make eye contact. Bears seem to find this threatening behavior.
--Throw rocks near the bears. Do not try to hurt them.
--And always report any bear encounters to the proper authorities.
