The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a loud bang and the smell of gas Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4:30pm Tuesday afternoon, the Marshfield Fire & Rescue department was dispatched to 424 North Anton Ave in Marshfield, for a reported loud bang and a smell of gas.

Upon arrival, there were no visible signs of smoke or fire coming from the residence; however, there was a smell of natural gas in the area. After further investigation the damage to the exterior and interior of the home was determined to be consistent with a lightning strike.

The lighting strike also ruptured an exterior natural gas line in front of the residence. Representatives from WE Energies were also dispatched to the area to repair the damaged natural gas line. There was no danger to the public.
