NO CHANGES EXPECTED AT CVTC IN NEILLSVILLE

The new president of Chippewa Valley Technical College says he doesn't expect many changes for the Neillsville campus in the coming school year. The CVTC board approved their budget last week. It increases the tax levy by $4.5%, but isn't expected to increase the mill rate, due to an ever-increasing tax base in the 11-county district.
Bruce Barker says the focuses of their satellite campuses, such as Neillsville, are rudimentary skills training and cooperation with existing community businesses.
"Certainly, we're doing that in Neillsville now with some welders that are going through additional learning there at the high school in a program we're teaching for OEM, which one of the big employers there in town," Barker says.
While the budget was approved last week, Barker notes the projections are still fluid, especially with three employee union contracts expiring next Monday.
