Wausau Man Sentenced for Home Invasion

Tuesday, June 25th, 2024 -- 10:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man accused of breaking into a home and beating the occupants with a pistol has reached a plea deal, avoiding a three-day trial in July.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, T’Eliq Whitelow has been given a withheld sentence for three years of probation, meaning he will not serve any prison or jail time if he meets all the terms for the probationary period.

Terms of the probation include the completion of all treatment or counseling, maintaining full-time employment or schooling, and absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. He’s also been instructed to pay restitution if that is ordered as well.

If his probation is revoked and he is forced to serve time, the judge has given him credit for 189 days already served. The 19-year-old is said to have broken into the house through a basement window.

When the occupants confronted him and another suspect on the main floor, Whitelow pointed a gun at them and made a threat. He then beat the man and his nephew with the gun. Both had to be treated at a local hospital for injuries.

The incident occurred during the summer of 2023. Whitelow was immediately named as a suspect but wasn’t taken into custody until December 2023 when officers caught up to him in Milwaukee. He had been scheduled for trial from July 10th to the 12th.
