Friday, June 21st, 2024 -- 2:00 PM

(WEAU Staff, WEAU) Eau Claire police say a woman is in custody after being accused of helping a felon on the run, according to WEAU staff.

According to Eau Claire police, on June 11, 2024, investigators from the Madison Police Department contacted the Eau Claire Police Department to ask for help in arresting 37-year-old Jerome Jacobs Jr. who is wanted in connection to an attempted homicide of two people.

Madison police said Jacobs was believed to be in the Eau Claire area and provided a description of the rental vehicle he was associated with. Eau Claire police say authorities attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Jacobs fled. As authorities chased Jacobs, he fled to an address in the 900 block of Water Street, where he met 54-year-old Candace Rogers.

Rogers is accused of helping Jacobs not get captured by hiding him in the backseat of her vehicle and driving him away from the area. Investigation showed a connection between Jacobs and Rogers.

Rogers was arrested for her involvement in Jacobs’ escape and is being held at the Eau Claire County Jail on the suspicion of harboring or aiding felons, according to Eau Claire police.

According to additional information from Eau Claire police, Rogers admitted to investigators that she drove Jerome Jacobs from the residence on 900 Water Street and out of the Eau Claire area. Investigators were able to gather information and evidence to establish the connection between Rogers and Jacobs.

Jacobs has not been found. Eau Claire police say they have no information to believe Jacobs is in the area. Eau Claire police say if you have information and would like to remain anonymous, please contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
