Wisconsin Rapids School District Receives Grant From Legacy Foundation for Upgrades to Playgrounds

Thursday, June 20th, 2024 -- 8:01 AM

The Wisconsin Rapids School District is excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Legacy Foundation to assist WRPS in upgrading all of its playgrounds.

Work is beginning at Grant Elementary, Mead Elementary, Pitsch Early Learning Center, and the Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School to enhance outdoor opportunities for students and create a welcoming place for families beyond the school day.

The work at these four schools is anticipated to be completed by the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, and additional upgrades will then take place in a second phase which includes enhancements and improvements for Grove Elementary, Howe Elementary, THINK Academy, and Washington Elementary.

Those projects will begin by the summer of 2025 to ensure that the updated playgrounds are ready for student use by the fall of 2025. With the District investing $1,350,000 into the projects, Legacy has committed an additional $3,750,000 toward the projects.

WRPS is very fortunate to have Legacy Foundation as a community partner. They have been instrumental in supporting multiple projects at District schools over the past four years including the Rapids Area Sports Complex on the Lincoln High School campus and the Outdoor, Play, Learning, Activity Center (OPLAC) located at Woodside Elementary School.

Superintendent Broeren stated, “I am extremely grateful to Legacy Foundation for the opportunity to again partner in an incredibly meaningful way that ultimately enhances opportunities not only for our schools, but also for the entire community.”

While work gets underway at the playground sites, access to these areas will be limited until the work gets completed.
