Friday, June 14th, 2024 -- 9:01 AM
The Black River Falls eighth graders competed again for the annual Dorothy Upton Writers Award.
Mrs. Upton was a reading teacher who taught in the Black River Falls School District for many years. She had a passion for writing. The Tuesday Club created the award in her honor to encourage young writers in Jackson County. This year, they had two first-place winners from Black River Falls: Makayla Steffen and Charlie Heath.
Makayla was chosen as the outstanding first-place winner, and she was given the honor of earning the Dorothy Upton Writing Award. Their ELA teachers are Grace Schilling and Nico Brandeau.
