Jackson County Tourism Numbers

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism released 2023 economic impact data, showing the tourism industry generated a record-breaking $25 billion in total economic impact.

The highest-ever overnight visitation helped fuel the growth, with Jackson County playing a pivotal role by contributing $66 million in total economic impact. The 2023 total economic impact surpassed the previous statewide record of $23.7 billion set in 2022.

Jackson County also surpassed the previous record of $63 million set in 2022. Additionally, last year, Jackson County tourism supported 478 part-time and full-time jobs across various sectors of the industry and generated $4.4 million in local tax revenue.

Statewide, tourism generated $1.6 billion in state and local tax revenue. “Travel and tourism have never been more crucial, both for travelers and our local economy,” said Amanda Gunn, Executive Director of the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Tourism revenue sustains numerous local businesses and improves the quality of life in our community. Furthermore, travel and tourism are essential in highlighting the unique heritage and natural beauty of Jackson County, preserving its charm, and ensuring prosperity for future generations.”

In 2023, Wisconsin welcomed 113 million visits, nearly two million more than the previous year, and saw the highest-ever overnight visits, with nearly 46 million overnight visits last year. Overnight visitors, on average, spent nearly three times as much as day trip visitors.

“Wisconsin tourism powers the economy and strengthens the fabric of communities of all sizes,” said Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Anne Sayers. “The historic impact of tourism reached every corner of Wisconsin and, in doing so, sustained the livelihoods for thousands of our friends and neighbors.”
