Wood County Sheriff’s Department Responds to One-Vehicle Accident in Port Edwards

On June 10th, at 8:59 P.M., Wood County Communication Center received a call of a vehicle accident on the Nepco Lake Bridge (State Highway 13) located in the Village of Port Edwards.
Witnesses observed a vehicle traveling northbound cross over the center median and southbound lanes. The vehicle crashed through the bridge fencing and became completely submerged in Nepco Lake.
The driver, 27-year-old Jerry Mowery of Wisconsin Rapids, was able to exit the vehicle and get to shore. Mowery was the only occupant in the vehicle, and he received medical attention. The incident is currently being investigated, but speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
Wood County Sheriff's Department, Wood County Rescue, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Port Edwards Fire Department, Port Edwards First Responders, Saratoga First Responders, and Nieman's Towing and Recovery assisted at the incident.
