Wisconsin Racer Recovering After Accident at Marshfield Motor Speedway

Friday, June 7th, 2024 -- 12:01 PM

(WBAY/Gray News) A Wisconsin short track racer is recovering at home after a scary crash at Marshfield Motor Speedway, according to WBAY and Gray News.

According to a statement from the track, on lap six of the X-treme 4′s feature race on June 1 at the 1/2-mile asphalt speedway, drivers Phil Malouf and Tim Hintz made side-by-side contact on the back straightaway.

The contact forced Hintz off the track, where he was launched through the air before landing off the racing surface behind some billboards. The statement went on to say that Hintz was experiencing some back pain and was taken to a local hospital and released the next day.

His wife, Lori Johnson Hintz, said he is recovering after fracturing his L1 vertebrae. “He (Tim) has all his feeling and, like with any injury, pain is to be expected,” she said in a written statement.

“Tim is resting at home and looks forward to a full recovery in time. We would like to thank everyone who has prayed and sent well wishes, and special thanks to the team at Marshfield Speedway for their quick response in helping Tim. Also, special thanks to both ambulances for their incredible service.”

With a full recovery expected, Lori Johnson Hintz said it’s only a matter of time before her husband is back on the race track. “Tim looks forward to rebuilding his car and getting back on the track with the awesome racing teams and fans,” she said.

“The word ‘race’ will always make Tim smile, even in this time of healing.”
