(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A 21-year-old man is in jail after a high-speed chase that began in Mosinee and ended near the Stewart Avenue/US 51 intersection in Wausau.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, the incident began at about 3:45 AM when officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been reported as stolen. The driver did not comply and sped off through the City of Mosinee and onto US 15/Interstate 39 northbound.

Police from Wausau and the Mountain Bay Metro Department were able to utilize spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires. Sheriff’s Officers used a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit near the Stewart Avenue exit.

Officers took the driver to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, then booked him into the Marathon County jail. He was identified as Justin Allen Phillips of Mosinee.

Charges against him are pending. Officers are still investigating the incident and further information will be released when appropriate. One officer also suffered minor injuries but has since returned to work after a medical evaluation.
