Marshfield Common Council Update

Friday, May 31st, 2024 -- 12:58 PM

The Marshfield Common Council meeting received an update on the City’s debt at their meeting this week.

They also reviewed 2024 borrowing, including the potential to borrow for the purchase of a new fire engine, scheduled for delivery in 2026. The Council then approved the AARP funds schedule as has been modified and approved the 2024 issuance of long term debt with minor changes and moving forward with the purchase of a new fire engine. The Council also approved the bid for the Adler Road Multi-Use Trail project to Earth Inc. for $539,534.30. The City has already spend $111,181 for tree removal and right-of-way purchase, which is not in the contract, and they plan to spend $69,000 for some other items. This item was initially tabled until after they discussed the debt and then went back to it and approved it. The City is receiving a $340,000 grant for this project. The Council also approved the dates for two special meetings to review the proposed 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Those meetings will be on Thursday, June 20th and Thursday, June 27th, both at 6:00 p.m. The Council also approved Randy Gershman to the Fire and Police Commission to fill a vacant position ending in April 2027. The Council also approved two conditional use permits, one for 1000 Corporate Drive and another at 1700 South Palmetto Avenue.

The Council also heard a presentation on the “Value of the Utility” and a presentation regarding the final report on the compensation market update. During the public comments portion of the meeting, one business owner discussed parking issues and another, again, discussed the issue of bathrooms at Wenzel Family Plaza. During the staff updates portion of the meeting, the Council got to meet the Marshfield Police Department’s and Marshfield School District’s new therapy dog Reggie. He was donated by Blueberry Cottages. The City Administrator also reminded the Council about a Special Council meeting on June 11th. Finally, the Mayor read a proclamation recognizing the Marshfield Columbus Dons boys basketball team and Coach Joe Konieczny regarding their state basketball victory back in March.
