Aspirus Riverview Nurse Receives DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Thursday, May 30th, 2024 -- 9:00 AM
Kelly Meddaugh is the winner of Aspirus Riverview Hospital & Clinics’ quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Kelly is a registered nurse in the Wisconsin Rapids’ hospital’s emergency department. She was nominated by the grateful mother of a young patient, who wrote: “My husband and I had our 12-year-old son in the ER with severe abdominal pain."
"He was very sick and scared. Kelly took care of him. What I mean is she explained and talked to my husband and I, but she talked, explained, and focused on our son. This is the first time he's ever been in the ER/hospital and was very scared."
"Kelly was kind, compassionate, caring, and answered any questions he had. Though very young, Kelly treated our son like a person/patient who asked questions, not a child. She directed the conversation to/on him. She explained everything to him before it was done."
"He felt so comfortable with her, she even got him to smile before he left. He was so relaxed, and by the time we left, he was feeling better and asked Kelly to take a picture with him. He showed his sisters and grandparents the great nurse he had."
"My husband, son, and I feel Kelly is a wonderful nurse and needs to be acknowledged for her exceptional care. She was very professional and overall, a great nurse. Thank you from all of us, especially our son. He really related to her well, and that made his experience not so scary.”
The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding and extraordinary care nurses provide every day. DAISY Award winners and nominees exceed the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying the Aspirus core values of Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy.
