Clark County seniors can get $25 vouchers to buy food at farmers' markets.Mary Sladich with the Clark County Department of Aging and Nutrition says the program has been around for a few years, but they have more vouchers this year.
"We were getting 70 vouchers? we had a waiting list. This year, we have 170, so I have plenty of vouchers available," Sladich says. "We are going around the county to the various nutrition sites, or they can come to the office. The person does have to apply in person."
Aside from the fact that it's a free $25, Sladich says farmers' markets are a great place to shop.
"You know where it's from and it's affordable," she notes, "They're always very, very generous and caring."
"For the elderly, this program provides them with fresh produce, because often times, those items can be more expensive than what they can afford."
