Marshfield Man Sentenced for Recklessly Endangering Safety After Incident with UTV Earlier this Year

Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 -- 12:00 PM

A Marshfield man was sentenced for 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety after an incident with a UTV back in January.

Back in January, the Wood County Communication Center received a report of a UTV pulling into a person's yard twice in the Township of Wood. The operator of the UTV advised that he was trying to get to Granton and appeared intoxicated.

Wood County Deputies located the UTV operating illegally on State Highway 80 in the Township of Wood. Wood County Sheriff Deputies attempted to stop the UTV but the UTV did not stop and led deputies on a pursuit.

The operator of the UTV,  Kyle Wendt of Marshfield, eventually entered into a field and turned off the machine. Deputies began to approach the UTV on foot. While doing so the operator took off and turned in the direction of a deputy in what appeared to be an attempt to strike them with the UTV.

The UTV fled the area. Deputies followed tracks in the snow and were able to locate the UTV and eventually take the operator into custody without further incident.

During his court appearance on Tuesday, Wendt was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety. Another charge was dismissed and read in. He was placed on 3 years of probation.
