The Marshfield Fire Department responded to a house fire at 208 E. 4th Street in the City of Marshfield.

The fire occurred on Tuesday around 6:51pm. According to a report from the Department, Marshfield Fire and Rescue responded with 11 personnel to a report of a house fire. When fire units arrived on scene, black smoke was seen coming from open windows and doors of the house.

Contact was made with the homeowner who stated everyone was out of the house and believes the fire is in the basement. Additional manpower and Central RIT were requested. Interior attack crews made entry into the house finding heavy smoke with zero visibility.

An interior crew made their way to the basement and found the seat of the fire while another interior attack crew found a small fire on the floor of the 1st floor. Both fires were quickly extinguished. Crews utilized ventilation fans to clear the smoke and toxic gasses from the house.

All hot spots were found and extinguished. Fire investigators were called in to determine origin and cause. The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation. There was major fire damage located in the basement of the house with minor fire damage located on the 1st floor and smoke damage throughout the house.

Heavy smoke conditions within the house made locating the fire difficult. The following departments assisted MFRD: Marshfield Police Department, Hewitt Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Department, and Arpin Fire Department.
