(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A former Wausau firefighter/paramedic previously convicted for sexual assault charges has pled not guilty to a new battery of charges.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Clifford Heiser entered the plea on Friday for a pair of second-degree sexual assault charges along with multiple felony counts for bail jumping and failing to maintain his status as a sex offender.
Charges stem from a 2022 incident in which the 40-year-old is accused of forcing himself onto an unconscious victim. Additional charges came forward this spring when it was discovered that Heiser may have been violating the terms of his parole by accessing the internet and social media.
According to one woman Heiser was “following” her on social media. Investigators also believe he had pornographic images stored on his devices. He is free on a $1,500 cash bond with several conditions including no unsupervised access to the internet outside of employment purposes. He also has a full no-contact order with the victim and no access to social media including Facebook and Snapchat.
Heiser was convicted in 2019 of misdemeanor sexual assault for an incident that occurred while he was working as a paramedic in Wausau. Officials found his saliva on the breast of a woman who had been transported to a local hospital by Heiser’s team.
He was immediately put on leave and resigned his position two weeks later. Based on the terms of that punishment, he could get an additional 3.5 years in prison on top of the charges from the two most recent cases. He returns to court on June 18th.
