FINISH LINE FRIDAY IN NEILLSVILLE
Friday, June 13th, 2008 -- 11:08 AM
Neillsville will be the site of a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society tonight (Friday).Opening ceremonies for the Finish Line event will be held at the Gazebo at 6 p.m.
"The walk goes through town and ends up at the high school track where they do more walking," explains Neillsville native Amanda Gallagher, who now works at the American Cancer Society regional office in Altoona, "Once the walkers get to the track, there's a silent auction, a bunch of theme laps. The night finishes with a touching luminara ceremony."
One of the items up for bids during the silent auction is an autographed Packers football that has all the signatures of the 2007 squad.
Neillsville's event is always well attended.
"Last year, there were about 120 participants. They raised over $16,000," she says, "This year, there should be between 130 and 140 partipants."
"Our goal is to raise over $18,000."
That money helps the American Cancer Society fund research, education and patient services.
It's not too late to decide to participate. If you need info, just stop at Pamida where many of the organizers work.
