Marshfield Man Arrested After Fleeing Officers

Sunday, May 26th, 2024 -- 6:08 AM

Marshfield police were dispatched to the area of Hinman Avenue and Edison Street Saturday afternoon for the report of a man that appeared to be having mental health issues. When officers arrived, he fled from the scene on foot. The man also appeared to be carring a firearm on his hip.

Officers recognized the individual, who recently was issued a warning stalking letter to stay away from a home in that area. More officers were called to the scene as well as Wood County Deputies.

A short time later, the same man was observed attempting to gain access to a residence. Officers shouted commands at the man to get down on the ground but a foot chase ensued. After a short pursuit, the man was taken into custody without incident. A loaded firearm was recovered on the man's waist.

The man, who was later identifed as a 66 year old man from Marshfield who lives outside the city limits in Marathon County, was taken to the Wood County Jail after evaluation at Marshfield Medical Center.

The man is facing potential charges that include Stalking with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Firearm on School Grounds, and Resisting an Officer.
