Osseo Mayor Speaks at Rural Partners Network Panel Hosted by the White House

Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 -- 12:00 PM

The City of Osseo announced that Mayor Josh Pettis was invited to speak at a Rural Partners Network panel hosted by the White House Office of Public Engagement and USDA on May 14th.

Mayor Pettis was among four individuals chosen to present insights into the utilization of USDA Rural Development funds in rural communities, highlighting Osseo’s commitment to economic growth and sustainability.

The panel, attended by a diverse audience of 100 individuals, including elected officials, business leaders, and community groups, showcased initiatives dedicated to enhancing the vitality of rural communities nationwide.

Mayor Pettis articulated the significance of the Rural Partners Network, an initiative aimed at bolstering economic opportunities through strategic investments in rural healthcare facilities, housing, broadband infrastructure, affordable childcare, safe drinking water, and advanced wastewater treatment facilities.

In 2023, Osseo received low-interest financing and grant funding from USDA Rural Development to construct the new wastewater treatment facility, a project vital for Osseo, and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2024.

"Osseo is honored to have been recognized on a national stage for our proactive efforts in rural development," stated Mayor Pettis. "Through collaboration and targeted investments, we are laying the foundation for economic growth in our community."

Accompanying Mayor Pettis at the event were state leaders in rural development, including Julie Lassa, USDA Rural Development Director of Wisconsin, and Sam Rikkers, Chief Operating Officer of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Their collective expertise and commitment underscored the importance of partnerships in advancing rural economic growth.

The City of Osseo extends its gratitude to the White House Office of Public Engagement and the USDA for this opportunity to share insights and proven practices in rural development investments.
