Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 -- 1:39 PM
The Neillsville school board approved some changes to the dress code policy they hope will lower skirts and raise attention levels. At an earlier meeting, board member Paul Elmhorst said he was taken aback by the revealing mini skirts students wear to class.
The middle and high school principals set to work to update the dress code policy. Changes approved Monday night state: midriffs, abdomens, backs, cleavage and any clothing typically worn as underclothing may not be exposed.
Also, "skirts, dresses and shorts must be beyond fingertip length when standing and beyond mid-thigh when sitting".
The new policy also bans halter-tops, tank tops, tube tops, strapless tops and so-called "beaters". On top of the typical punishments, the policy gives principals the right to send students home to change.
