Wausau Man Sentenced for 7th OWI

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man will serve prison time after he was found guilty of his 7th OWI earlier this month.
According to Mike Leischnrer with WSAU, Dennis Campbell was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and another 5.5 years on extended supervision for the August 2022 incident, which started when Campbell crashed his vehicle near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Weston Avenue in Wausau.
Witnesses said the 71-year-old fled the scene, but one person was able to take down his license plate. When police arrived at his home they found the vehicle with damage matching the witness description. Campbell then admitted to leaving the scene of the crash.
A breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content to be .20. Because of his prior OWI convictions, Campbell’s limit for driving was .02. Judge Michael Moran handed down the sentence earlier this month.
He also revoked Campbell’s driver’s license has also been revoked for three years and he will be forced to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicles.
