(Heather Knox, WEAU) An Eau Claire man was sentenced to federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon, according to Heather Knox with WEAU.
According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, 26-year-old Nathaniel Larson was sentenced today to four years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.
Larson pleaded guilty to this charge on Feb. 8, 2024. On July 11, 2023, an Eau Claire police officer stopped Larson for a traffic violation. Larson’s behavior was reportedly suspicious, so the officer asked him to exit the car.
Larson consented to a search. The officer found a small bag of heroin and fentanyl in his pants pocket. Larson was arrested. During a search of the car, the officer found a loaded Taurus 9 mm handgun and an extra loaded magazine.
Larson is prohibited from legally possessing a firearm and ammunition because of a prior felony conviction for second-degree recklessly endangering safety. The new release said that the judge noted that Larson’s behavior had been out of control and a long sentence was necessary to protect the community.
