Case of Hepatitis A Reported in Marathon County

(Samuel Dehring, WSAW) A case of ‘Hepatitis A’ has been reported in Marathon County after it was discovered about three weeks ago, according to Samuel Dehring with WSAW.
Why are we just learning about it now? It’s because the Marathon County Health Department says it only reports outbreaks of two or more people. Since this was a single case, they are unable to comment on how that person contracted the virus.
Hepatitis A spreads from contaminated food or water, or when a person is in contact with someone who is already infected. Even though only one case has been reported, the Health Department says you should be aware of the symptoms.
“Fatigue, nausea, sometimes vomiting, jaundice, which is a dis-colorization of the skin. Even younger children who may have Hepatitis A, there may be no symptoms,” Family Health And Communicable Disease Director with the Marathon County Health Department Miranda Eggebrecht said.
Experts say to help protect yourself and others, make sure you wash your hands and stay up to date on your vaccinations. You should also never go to work or school if you feel sick.
