Marathon County Sheriff Chad Billeb had the privilege of presenting two awards in front of the Public Safety Committee.

Sheriff Billeb presented a Civilian Community Service Award to Morgan Brewer, a citizen who went above and beyond in assisting a resident in the Town of Hamburg.

Morgan was on her way to work during the early morning hours of March 23, 2024, when she noticed smoke and flames coming from the roof of a residence she was driving past.

Morgan immediately called our 911 center and informed our dispatchers of the fire. At the request of our dispatch center and without hesitation, Morgan approached the home and pound on the door to summons the homeowner.

Morgan also confirmed that no other occupants remained in the home. Had Morgan not called our office and if she did not have the courage to go to the home and pound on the door at this early hour, the outcome might have been very different.

Morgan's actions were unique in that it isn't often a young person is willing to put aside their fears in an unknown situation like this. They are very thankful for the courage Morgan displayed and her commitment to helping her community.

Sheriff Billeb also presented Deputy Charlie Hessil with a Sheriff's Commendation for his actions in assisting a City of Mosinee police officer after the officer had been stabbed on January 19, 2024.

Deputy Hessil displayed exceptional leadership along with a calm and professional response when he came to the aid of an officer who had been stabbed in the leg after the officer attempted to check on a person who appeared to be incapacitated and laying on a sidewalk.

Deputy Hessil used a tourniquet to control the bleeding the officer was experiencing and assisted in getting the officer to safety before resuming his efforts to take the uncooperative person into custody.

While coordinating other responders and with the assistance of his K9 partner, Ace, Deputy Hessil brought the dangerous situation to a resolution that prevented injury to other responders and limited injury to the suspect.

Congratulations to Morgan Brewer, Deputy Hessil and K9 Ace on a job well done!
