(Heather Poltrock, WSAW) The Marshfield Police Department said a man is out nearly $1,700 after falling victim to online scam.

According to Heather Poltrock with WSAW, Saturday, police investigated the incident. The man said he had been in contact with a woman who was the victim of a kidnapping. The woman said she was in Wisconsin.

Police determined that it was a scam after learning the man sent $1,690 to the person using a cash app. If you suspect a real kidnapping is taking place or you believe a ransom demand is a scheme, contact your nearest FBI office or local law enforcement immediately.
