Applications Available for Black River Falls Memorial Hospital's Summer Volunteen Program

Monday, April 29th, 2024 -- 8:00 AM

Applications are now available for the 2024 Summer Volunteen Program sponsored by the Volunteers of Black River Memorial Hospital (BRMH).

Students must be 14 to 18 years of age to apply. Volunteen application forms are available online at www.brmh.net/volunteer. The registration deadline is May 15, 2024. Students must commit to volunteering a minimum of four hours each week at the hospital and attend a training/orientation session.

Orientation will be Tuesday, June 11, from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m. at the hospital. Applicants will be contacted if the date changes. BRMH Volunteens assist in greeting and escorting patients and visitors, delivering mail, staffing the information desk, and assisting departments with various duties.

One benefit of the Volunteen Program is "shadowing," in which Volunteens have the opportunity to spend time with someone in a particular profession they wish to explore. Examples of areas students can shadow include but are not limited to: nursing, laboratory, rehab therapy, dietary, and radiology.

The objectives of the Volunteen Program are to broaden students' abilities to interact with other people in a professional environment; learn to handle responsibilities; experience the satisfaction of helping others; gain a sense of self-worth and self-esteem; build confidence; get an inside look at health careers; learn work ethics; and develop work skills.

The Volunteen program is sponsored by the Volunteers of BRMH. For more information about the program, contact Sarah Osegard at [email protected] or call 715-284-3606.
