CLICK IT, OR TICKET IS BACK
Monday, May 19th, 2008 -- 3:02 PM
The Clark County Sheriff's Department will be one of hundreds of law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin that will participate in the Click It or Ticket safety belt enforcement mobilization. It will run from May 19 through June 1.
Officers will patrol in greater numbers. Those pulled over while not wearing a seatbelt will get a ticket whether they're driving or just a passenger.
Wisconsin's safety belt use is now at an all-time high with 75% of people now buckling up. That, unfortunately lags behind the national average of 82%.
An analysis by the state Bureau of Transportation Safety found that from 1996 through 2006, approximately three out of five people who were killed or suffered serious injuries in Wisconsin crashes between the hours of 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. were not belted.
